Dr. Betty Chan Po-king
Dr. Chan is the President of Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association (Hong Kong) and the Director of the Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF), a Christian non-profit education foundation founded by her mother, Madame Tsang Chor-hang, in 1932. YCEF now runs international schools in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and Qingdao in China, as well as in Silicon Valley, California, in the USA. Dr. Chan was one of the pioneers in Early Childhood Education in Hong Kong. She had been an appointed Member of both the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ) under the Government of Hong Kong. She currently serves as Chairman of the Child Education and Community Services Discipline Advisory Board of the Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) and Chairman of the Sir Jack Cater Scholarship Fund Selection Committee under the government’s Home Affairs Bureau.
With a group of enthusiastic early childhood educators, Dr. Chan established the Hong Kong branch of PECERA in 2006 and chairs the Executive Committee. They hosted the PECERA 8th Annual Conference in Hong Kong attracting over 600 participants both locally and from around the world. Dr. Chan remains active in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is a Life Member of Phi Delta Kappa, University of Illinois Chapter.
